There it is, if you would like to listen before judging.

I shared your sentiment about remixes in the past, but my opinion has been rapidly changing since I've really begun to listen to more electronic music.

The remix brings new life to an old song - and you are right it is usually with the intention of making people groove to it. Dancing doesn't have to be mindless... and there's nothing wrong with booty-shakin' :)

Think about it this way, maybe this re-mix will bring the Grateful Dead's music (which has in part been preserved by the editor) to new ears who will seek out the original, etc. Also, to make an edit or cover of a song can be a tribute to it's original greatness.

That song has nothing at all to do with the GD,it is a bastardization of Shakedown Street by Tommie Sunshine.

Shpongle really opened my eyes to "electronica's" possibilities

Indeed, syf!

Apparently either this track or this whole album was recorded after they returned home from witnessing a complete solar eclipse in India!

My girlfriend turned me on to this track about a year ago and we actually saw Shpongle live at Rothbury immediately after The Dead finished!

The show was just alright... they didn't have the full band with them... for me, the high point of their set must have been when I looked up in the sky for no apparent reason, with my girlfriend following my gaze, and noticed the same moving lights (?) that we noticed during the end of The Dead's set....
